As a musician, his rock star fantasies briefly became reality when his former band opened for REO Speedwagon, A Flock of Seagulls, and Blondie.
William McNeely
-
William McNeely is an entrepreneur and nonprofit executive whose career spans marketing, education, and technology — including a role as a Market Development Executive at Apple. He is the founder and CEO of Do Greater Charlotte, where he has built a community dedicated to the next generation of creative leaders through technology, inspiring spaces, and a strong network of partners.
At the heart of that work is Sparkhouse, Do Greater’s creative opportunity ecosystem, anchored by the 20,000-square-foot Sparkhouse Uptown flagship on North Tryon Street. Sparkhouse equips youth and young adults with skills across creative trades, digital creativity, creative technologies, and entrepreneurship. William’s entrepreneurial drive shows in the multiple ventures he has launched, and his personal story is one of extraordinary resilience — including recovery from a double lung transplant that reinforced his life’s mission to inspire change. His guiding belief: your limitations are the oxygen that fuels your purpose.
Named 2025 Charlottean of the Year, William has served on multiple nonprofit boards and remains a force in faith-based community work. His current focus is expanding the Sparkhouse platform across Charlotte — building an inclusive support system for underestimated youth and the entrepreneurs whose ability has never been the question, only their access.
Lauren Bickerstaff
-
Professionally, Lauren is an agency-trained writer and director, but that never stopped her from doing a ton of other things she loves: dancing, choreographing, becoming a parent and a foster parent, cooking, bribing her friends to lend her a film camera and sourdough starter, making a playlist for every occasion. Her career has taken her through some major companies like Mood Media and Conde Nast, as well as small-but-truly-mighty agencies and production companies. Through it all, she strives to create work that is vibrant and compelling, thrives on collaboration and loves setting a good atmosphere.
Eric Halili
-
Eric Halili (@erichalili) is a creative entrepreneur, dot connector, and problem solver behind MAYA VP Studios and Rebrand. Known for blending the craft of film and virtual production, Eric brings a unique perspective on building creative businesses and proving big ideas can come to life, even from someone who immigrated to America at age 12.
Rachel Cobb
-
Rachel Cobb is a fiercely strategic growth leader and the founder of Root + Rigor. With 20+ years of experience driving momentum for global icons like Disney and Kellogg’s, she excels at aligning complex corporate dynamics to build consensus. A dedicated truth-seeker, she zeros in on the human friction points that unlock true business growth. When she’s not reining in complex strategy, this Tar Heel devotee is likely adventuring in the mountains or playing Mah Jongg.
